What Sets the Cost

Homes and systems vary, so we put a price on the job once we've looked at it. The items below tend to matter most. Nothing is tucked away; we go over each one with you on the quote.

A repair begins with a diagnostic visit, and that fee goes toward the repair. New installs and replacements come with a free estimate, itemized in writing before we start any work.

Fixing versus replacing
Swapping a bad capacitor or cleaning a flame sensor is a quick call. A cracked heat exchanger or a failed compressor on an aging unit is a bigger choice, and we explain both options.
How big your home is
New equipment needs to fit how much heat the house loses in winter and picks up in summer. We size it using square footage, insulation, windows and floor plan instead of a shortcut formula.
Type and efficiency of equipment
Standard furnaces, high-efficiency furnaces, cold-climate heat pumps and ductless mini-splits each carry a different price to buy and to operate. Variable-speed units cost more and run more quietly and steadily.
Location and access
Replacing a furnace in an open basement is simpler than one squeezed into an attic or crawlspace. Outdoor units need a firm pad and a spot clear of snow falling from the roof.
Gas, wiring and permits
Some jobs call for a new gas hookup, a dedicated circuit or a larger breaker. Installs also require a permit and inspection, and we take care of pulling the permit.
Rebates and credits
Heat pumps may qualify for Avista rebates and federal tax credits. We help you file for them, which can lower what you end up paying.

Heating and Cooling Work We Do

Most of our calls are furnace repair in the fall and AC repair once the summer heat hits. We also handle furnace installation, AC installation, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits and maintenance plans for your home. For shops and offices we do commercial HVAC, and builders call us for new construction HVAC. If something stops working at 2 a.m., our emergency HVAC repair line is open around the clock.

Why Neighbors Call Us

We'd rather catch a weak part in September than chase a dead furnace in January. That idea runs through how we schedule, how we quote and how we talk with you.

We work ahead of the season

A furnace that has sat idle since April should get checked before the first hard frost, not during it. In early fall we clean burners, test the igniter and flame sensor, and look over the heat exchanger. In spring we turn to the AC side: coils, refrigerant charge, capacitors and the condensate drain.

A written quote first

You see the work and the cost on paper before we pick up a tool. If the plan changes once we open something up, we stop and talk with you before going further.

No after-hours fees

We take emergency calls any hour. There are no emergency or after-hours fees, so a furnace that quits on a Sunday night costs the same to fix as one that quits on a Tuesday afternoon.

Straight answers on repair or replace

If a small part fixes it, that's what we tell you. When a system is near the end, we show you why with photos and readings, then let you decide.

Your diagnostic fee isn't wasted

The diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair. Estimates are free on installations and replacements.

A Small Shop That Plans Around the Weather

HVAC Tekoa is a local heating and cooling company. We fix and install the equipment that keeps your home warm through long, cold winters and livable through hot, dry summer stretches. Most of what we do is ordinary work done carefully: clean burners, tight connections, correct refrigerant charge and a system sized right for the house.

We schedule tune-ups so heating gets checked before fall turns cold and cooling gets checked before the first warm spell. That keeps breakdowns down and keeps our calendar open for the ones that still happen. When they do, we answer the phone at any hour and charge no after-hours fees.

How a Job Runs

The steps are the same on every job, from the first call to the last wipe-down.

  1. 1

You call and tell us what's going on

No heat, short cycling, a burning smell, water pooling by the furnace. We ask a few questions and set a time that works for you. If it's a no-heat or no-cool emergency, we send a tech any hour of the day or night.

  2. 2

    We find the actual cause

We test before we guess. That means meter readings, a close look at the parts and photos of anything worn or failing. Then we explain what we found in plain words.

  3. 3

    You get a written quote

The quote lists the parts, the labor and anything else the job needs. You decide. No pressure and no surprise add-ons later.

  4. 4

We do the work and clean up

We lay down drop cloths and wear shoe covers inside your home. Old equipment gets hauled away. Before we leave, we run the system, check the readings again and show you anything you need to know about the thermostat or filter.

Questions We Hear Often

Will a night or weekend call cost me extra?

No. We don't add emergency or after-hours fees, so a midnight call on a holiday costs the same as a weekday visit. The price is still written down before any work starts.

How often does my heating and cooling need a checkup?

Once a year for each system. The furnace gets its visit in early fall and the AC in spring, ahead of their busy months. A heat pump works all year, so it gets both a spring and a fall visit.

What do I get with a maintenance plan?

Plans start at $14.99 a month and include tune-ups, lower repair prices and priority scheduling. Tune-ups are booked before heating and cooling season. Your spot near the front of the line matters most on the first cold snap, when the phones are busiest.

Can a heat pump handle winter here?

Cold-climate models keep heating far below freezing, and we set them up with backup heat for the worst nights. We look at your house and give you an honest answer on whether one fits. We also help you file for Avista rebates and federal tax credits on heat pumps.

What happens if a repair doesn't hold?

Every repair carries a 1-year labor warranty. If our work fails within that year, we return and fix it with no labor charge.

Do quotes cost anything?

Installation and replacement estimates cost nothing. Repairs begin with a diagnostic fee to pin down the problem, and we credit that fee toward the repair if you go ahead. In both cases you see the price in writing first.

Is my old furnace worth fixing?

That comes down to its age, its condition and what failed. A cracked heat exchanger usually means replacement, for safety. One worn part on an otherwise healthy furnace is often a good repair. We show you what we found and put both choices in writing.
